If you’re of a mind to bet on sports, this is the week for you. The NHL and NBA both wrapping up their seasons this week. On top of that, the U.S. Open takes place this weekend at Pebble Beach. Here are all the details you need.
St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Game 7
The Boston Bruins won to force a seventh game in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2011. The Bruins will host, and history indicates that’s to their advantage. The home team is 11-5 in Game 7 in the Stanley Cup. With that said, the road team has won the last two, including the Bruins, who were the last team to win a Game 7.
The Blues are notoriously difficult to beat both on the road and after losses. Their rookie goaltender, Jordan Binnington, has incredible numbers in those circumstances. Can they find a way to overcome adversity one more time and capture the franchise’s first championship? The Blues enter as heavy underdogs, so if you’re looking to bet, they may be worth your money.
Prop Bet: Conn Smythe Trophy
The end of the series also means that the Conn Smythe Trophy will be awarded to the MVP of the postseason. Bruins goaltender Tuuka Rask is the heavy favorite, and if the Bruins win, he’s an absolute lock. Seriously, if you’re betting on the Bruins anyway, put some money on Rask. It’s an absolute guarantee.
With that said, it’s extremely rare, though possible, that a player from the losing team earns the Conn Smythe. But Rask has been so good he has a shot. If that’s going to happen, though, you’ll want to place your bets between the Blues’ victory and the announcement of the award. That’ll net you much more return.
Among Blues candidates, Binnington and center Ryan O’Reilly are the top candidates. Either could claim the trophy with a strong performance en route to a win, so it’s a pick’em who to bet on.
Warriors Force Game 6
It was oh so close. Toronto almost captured its first title since Joe Carter’s massive home run in the 1993 World Series. He touched’em all, but since then, Toronto Sports hasn’t touched much.
The Toronto Raptors couldn’t quite capture the NBA Championship Monday night, losing Game 5 by just a point. But the Warriors lost Kevin Durant again, and the Raptors need just one win in the next two to grab the title.
The Raptors remain favorites to win the series, but they’re underdogs in Game 6. Can they claim the ‘ship on enemy turf? Or will they need a seventh game to get it done? For what it’s worth, we predicted Raptors in 7, and we’re sticking to it.
Prop Bet: Finals MVP
This one is simple: if the Raptors win, it’s Kawhi Leonard. If the Raptors lose, it still might be Kawhi Leonard. If it’s not Kawhi Leonard, it’s Stephen Curry. But it’s probably Kawhi Leonard.
U.S. Open: Koepka, Johnson, or McIlroy
The U.S. Open at Pebble Beach: what could be better? Well, making money off of it, I suppose. Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Rory McIlroy are currently the favorites at +850, with Tiger Words trailing behind.
With golf, it’s really anyone’s guess who holds on to win. Koepka has won three majors in the last two years, though, so if you’re looking for a favorite, he may be your man.
